Practice week 2: Day 3
By rating your players based on how well they perform drills, they'll be better equipped to learn what they're doing well and where they could use more practice. The drills competition day will help them develop faster and perform drills correctly.
These practice plans are an outline and flexible. Change however you see fit to your coaching philosophy.
Today's Points of Emphasis - 3 Minutes
Throwing Warm-Ups - 10 Minutes
Have players pair up with a partner to complete the throwing warm-ups.
Hitting Drills - 20 Minutes
Rate each player on a scale of 1-3, with 3 being the best, on how well they perform each of the fundamentals.
The purpose of these hitting drills is to keep players moving and engaged. Have players make 10 solid swings per each drill to ensure they get through each of them, and have them continue to rotate until the time is up.
Baserunning Drills - 15 Minutes
Rate each player on a scale of 1-3, with 3 being the best, on how well they perform each of the fundamentals.
The purpose of these baserunning drills is to teach your players to be aggressive, but smart on the base paths. Smart baserunning will put more base runners in scoring position and reduce blunders.
Throwing/Catching Drills - 20 Minutes
Rate each player on a scale of 1-3, with 3 being the best, on how well they perform each of the fundamentals.
The purpose of these throwing and catching drills is to build up arm strength and accuracy while building confidence in their abilities. Run each drill for 5 minutes and then switch it up to the next one.
Fielding Drills - 20 Minutes
Rate each player on a scale of 1-3, with 3 being the best, on how well they perform each of the fundamentals.
The purpose of these fielding drills is to teach your proper fielding technique, whether that is in the infield or outfield. Defense is often put behind hitting, but is the most important aspect to a winning team.
