The Ball in Glove Drill and Balance Drill are great for building a strong athletic posture and balance through a throw.
Setup
This drill is best performed with a partner. Players should be several yards away from each other and will alternate making throws and catches.
Drill Instructions
- The player should begin in a strong, athletic position. The throwing arm should be raised up. The shoulder and the upper arm should be in a straight line. Place the ball in the glove and you are ready to throw.
- When making the throw, the player should shuffle their feet forward and throw the ball. It is important here to pay attention to the posture, especially in the upper back where the player should retain a strong and athletic posture.
- To perform the balance drill, the player is going to set up the same as the previous step. This time when the player goes to throw, they should raise their back leg so that they are standing on one leg. The player should try to maintain balance until the partner makes the catch.
