This drill can be added to the catcher’s normal drill routine to practice pop-ups and pop flies. This drill can be done in full gear.
To do the Bunt Pop Up Catcher Drill, the player is going to get into normal catching position. The coach should stand behind the player. The coach is going to throw balls up into the air yell, “ball”. The catcher’s job is to quickly turn around, locate the ball, and make the play.
This drill can be done with short, medium, or high tosses. To increase the difficulty, alternate the throws so that the catcher does not know what kind of ball they will be catching. The player should remove their mask on high balls and should always turn their back to the infield to try to make the catch. The catcher should use their legs to move to get under the ball instead of extending their arms to the ball.
