The Single-Leg Squat Drive Drill is great for learning how to drive down the mound when pitching. This move is great for building muscle in the back leg and will help propel the pitcher forward and increase velocity.
Setup
This drill is best performed on a pitching rubber or mound. The player will begin in ready position. This drill can be done dry without throwing a ball.
Drill Instructions
- The pitcher will do a single leg squat on their back leg.
- The player is going to push hard against the ground with the back leg driving the body forward.
- Lead with the hip and stride forward towards the target.
Coaching Tips
Watch the players knee and make sure that the back knee is never extending past the toe.
