The A Drill allows players to visualize getting into a good position to secure a glove side or backhand ball.
Setup
Begin by drawing the letter “A” in the dirt. The top point of the A should be pointed towards the coach. The player is going to stand with their left and right foot on each side of the A’s crossbar.
Drill Instructions
The coach is going to throw short hops to the player either to the gloved side or the backhand side.
The player should step back into position to make the catch, placing one foot on the top point of the A and the opposite foot on the left or right leg of the A.
The purpose of drawing the A in the sand is to give the player a visual representation of where their feet should be planted when making the catch.
