The Step Back Throw Pitching Drill is a good drill for learning and practicing driving from the back leg while in motion.
Setup
The player should get set up. With this drill, the player can pitch towards the wall.
Drill Instructions
- The player is going to take a small hop forward landing on their lead foot.
- The player should then take a hop backward landing on their back foot and planting it.
- The back leg should be used to propel the player forward. When hopping back to the back leg, the player may need to sink farther down to build up enough momentum to drive forward. Repeating this move will build up muscle in the lower half of the body.
- The player will then make the throw.
Coaching Tips
Make sure the player is really getting into the back leg. They should build up a lot of power in the back leg while hopping backward.
