The Launch Position Transfer Catcher Drill is great for teaching catchers how to keep a good rhythm for receiving a ball and delivering it. This drill allows catchers to get into the best position for throwing. This drill is done in full gear. The player should setup just behind the plate in a kneeling position, with one knee on the dirt.
The coach or partner is going to throw balls to the catcher. The whole strike zone can be used to increase the difficulty of this drill. The catcher should receive the pitch, and then explode up into launch position.
The catcher should allow the pitch to come to them. At no point should the catcher be going out to get the pitch. Allow the ball to get deep before making the catch.
