The Rundown Drill is great for practicing with runners and infielders at the same time. This drill allows fielders to practice tagging players out in three throws or less. Simultaneously, this drill lets runners practice staying alive as long as they can.
Setup
This drill is done with 4 players. Two players are lined up at first base and one of them will be holding the baseball. One player is covering third and the fourth player is the runner. The runner should start between first and second base.
Drill Instructions
- The first baseman with the ball will chase after the runner.
- As the runner nears the third base, the first baseman will throw the ball to the third baseman and go to cover third base.
- The runner should turn around and begin running back to first base with the third baseman now chasing him.
- As the runner reaches first base, the chaser should throw the ball to the first baseman and the cycle will repeat until the drill is complete.
