The Increased Throwing Velocity Drill was designed to increase your power and throwing velocity.
Players will begin the drill in a standing ready position. The player is turned away from their target as if they were going to make a throw or a pitch.
- The player will stand on one leg and get their balance. When ready the player will begin hopping forward toward the target. The player should hop forward three times without lowering their front leg. On the third hop, the player will explode forward and make a throw. When exploding forward to make the throw, the player should be leading with the front hip.
- The second throw in this drill is set up in the same way as the first throw except the player should have a nice wide stance. The front leg should be positioned so it is slightly opened. When the player is ready, they will rock their body and their body weight to the front leg. Next, the weight should shift to the back leg and the front leg should be raised off the ground slightly. With the third body rock, the player is going to explode forward and throw.
