Framing pitches is an important skill for catchers to learn. To properly frame a pitch and give the pitcher a target, catchers need to learn and practice the best hand position for receiving. Ideally, the catcher’s thumb and pointer finger should make an L shape. The index and four following fingers should be pointed towards the sky. The thumb should be parallel to the ground. This hand position gives catchers the best opportunity for framing pitches as well as the best opportunity for catching low inside pitches.
