What Is a Double Elimination Bracket in Baseball?

A double elimination bracket is a unique tournament style where teams are not out of the championship until they lose twice. Everyone starts out in the winners' bracket in a double elimination tournament. After a team suffers their first loss, they are moved down to the losers' bracket, but a losing team still has the opportunity to play in the championship if they can overcome defeat and win the rest of their games. At the end of the tournament, you will have two teams left standing: one from the winners' bracket, that has never lost, and one from the losers' bracket that has lost only once. The team from the losers' bracket must beat the winners' bracket team twice to win the tournament.

How To Fill In a Baseball Double Elimination Bracket

Double-elimination brackets are not the easiest tournament styles to understand. They can get complicated with an increase of teams. To make things easier, print out the appropriate bracket for your league. Next, you will fill in the first round of the bracket with the teams. This can be done randomly, with a blind draw, or by seeding depending on your league. When the tournament begins, the double elimination bracket will slowly start to develop. Double elimination tournaments can take a long time, so you will need to make sure your league has enough time to complete all of the games.
