Practice week 2: Day 1
Now that your young ballplayers know the fundamentals of hitting a baseball and running bases, introducing proper drills will help them excel. Hitting a baseball is one of the toughest skills in all sports. Drills will teach them proper hitting mechanics and make them a better hitter. Baserunning drills will keep them active and alert on the base paths, ensuring more runners get in scoring position.
These practice plans are an outline and flexible. Change however you see fit to your coaching philosophy.
Today's Points of Emphasis - 3 Minutes
Tip of the Day - 2 Minutes
Throwing Warm-Ups - 10 Minutes
Have players pair up with a partner to complete the throwing warm-ups.
Hitting Drills - 30 Minutes
The purpose of these hitting drills is to keep players moving and engaged. Have players make 10 solid swings per each drill to ensure they get through each of them, and have them continue to rotate until the time is up.
Baserunning Drills - 30 Minutes
The purpose of these baserunning drills is to teach your players to be aggressive, but smart on the base paths. Smart baserunning will put more base runners in scoring position and reduce blunders.
